Description It is known that heavy metals, first of all iron (Fenton reaction), generate the reactive oxygen species in the organism. The oxidation stress caused the severe damage of DNA and biological membranes. Sperm have a high content of polyunsaturated fatty acids in membranes and high amount of DNA, which are sensitive to oxidative stress. The oxidation damaging of the membranes and DNA in the sperm can influence the process of fertilization and embryogenesis. The aim of our work was to develop a simple and quick method for determination of GSH and GSSG content in sperms of certain fish species using high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection (HPLC-ED).
