Description | Here we report on a spectrochemical and electrochemical analysis of selected species of maize (Zea mays) and sunflower (Heliantus annus) samples. Each plant, from which the investigated leaf samples were taken, was treated with different concentrations of lead and/or cadmium ions (0, 100, 1000 uM) for five days. During the treatment the plants were grown in hydroponic solution and the pollutants were added in the form of Pb-EDTA and/or Cd-EDTA. Utilizing LIBS the spatial distribution of the pollutants (Pb, Cd) was monitored. The influence of the accumulated heavy-metal to the amount of selected nutrition elements present in the plant (Mg, Ca) was also studied. To support LIBS data we utilized differential pulse anodic stripping voltammetry to analyze total content of lead and/or cadmium ions in the tissues of the treated plants. Besides that we also aimed on investigation of heavy-metal effects on thiols content at the treated plants using high performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection. |
