Description Proteomics is a highly dynamic discipline focused on proteome research, and currently a driving force of progress in our knowledge of relationships between genes and their functions in a cell. The main tool of protein characterization is mass spectrometry. The paper presents a brif survey of basic approaches of protein characterization by mass spectrometry and applications of mass spectrometry in clinical proteomics.
