Description The goal of this study was to develop environmental distribution model of persistent organic pollutants based on fugacity approach for region of the Czech Republic and to use it for evaluation of environmental concentrations of PAHs in air and soil which has been measured in Košetice locality for more than 10 years. Air concentrations were used as source data for steady state model and concentrations in soil were predicted. Unsteady state version of distribution model was developed and applied again on measured data. Positive relationship between observed and predicted soil concentrations was observed. Results indicate that description of soil compartment in model is essential for predicting long time trends in soil concentrations. Result shows the risk of using simple steady state model as predictive tool for environmental applications without knowledge of long time trends in soil concentration changes which are results of local condition concerning air pollution.
