Description The topic of the paper is focused on some problems of metrics in phonology. It establishes three types of metrics, both for phones and phonemes. Linear structure of speech strings could be defined by a linear phonic metrics, which sets the length of a string, positions of phones and two directions of linear dimension. Similarly linear metrics could be used for phonemes (linear phonemic metrics), there are many possibilities of confronting both types of linear metrics. Another type of metrics is a gross metrics based on confrontation and comparison of segments of known strings. Again, there is a difference between phonic and phonemic gross metrics with many possibilities of use. The third type of metrics is a fine metrics (both for phones and phonemes), which could specify the distinction between components by using distinctive features.
