Description | At present, Common Czech has a significant position in the sphere of fiction as well as outside this sphere. If we observe Modern Czech texts from the diachronic point of view, it is possible to find examples of elements belonging to Common Czech from the present-day point of view, but this would be only a superficial observation. Seemingly identical means of expression may perform different functions in different periods;they may prove the absence of a fixed language standard, an equivalent to an element of another dialect, a means of social and geographical characterization of characters etc. Analyses of language and style of an individual author are inevitably only partial, but a clearly defined specific means of expression gives the opportunity to look at its position within a framework of the language during the particular period and of the norms of communication, as well as in a particular genre (of fiction or non-fiction). There is an opportunity to make a distinction between manifestations of the norm of the particular period from norms of the period when the analysis is taking place. Only this way provides a possibility to study style and its changes adequately. |
