Description | Middle Devonian coarse-grained (exotic) polymict conglomerate near Brno (called the Hády conglomerate) has been investigated to determine the provenance area. The results of morphometric, petrographic and geochemical study suggests that pebbles belong to eroded upper levels of the Brno Massif and its crystalline envelope. Sedimentation of polymict conglomerate has been accompanied by explosive rhyolitic volcanism with A-type affinity. The Hády conglomerate represents alluvial sediment which was deposited into a continental extension basin. This can be connected very probably with initial phase of the Brunovistulian rifting. The western part of the Brno Massif had to be intensively eroded in the time of the Hády conglomerate formation. |
