Description In January 2007, large areas of the Šumava mountain range was affected by hurricane named Kyrill, which caused wind damages to forest stands on several tens of square kilometres. Forest management needs basic data both for the short-term decision-making during the removal of damages, and for long-term measures that would mitigate the risk of windthrows in the future. Czech forestry is well equipped with the cartographic documentation of various kinds on forest stands and their environment. In addition, there are thematic maps available on geological structure, soils outside the forest stands, relief, etc. in analogue or digital forms provided by other organizations. The ample territorial documentation was after the Kyrill hurricane added windthrow maps with the intensity of damage in three categories.
