Description | In our recent paper (Pekar and Sobotnik, 2007) we erroneously identified tiny intracellular coccoid-like structures (Figs. 7 and 13) as lucent granules, yet these are in fact symbiotic intracellular microorganisms. We compared morphological characters of the microorganisms found in Zodarion with those found in other invertebrates (Chang and Musgrave, 1972; Costa et al., 1995; Kurtti et al., 1996; Zchori-Fein et al., 2001, 2004; Bigliardi et al., 2006; Marzorati et al., 2006), specifically: the size of the symbionts (0.99-1.6 mm long, 0.58-0.89 mm wide), size and structure of microfilament- like structures, size and structure of inner plasma membrane and outer cell wall. |
