Description | Contextual cartographic visualization can be applied in electronically visualized maps. Because visualization of electronic maps can vary in time, it can be adapted towards the so-called context. Context elements include information about user, situation and activity that has to be performed on basis of visualized data. The paper deals with several methods of map visualization adaptation. The most frequently used method is change of symbolics. Different sets of symbols are usually used for different types of users and/or for various types of displaying devices. Another method is change of cartographic method; its use is usually related to professional experience of user and purpose of map. The most complex method of map visualization adaptation is cartographic generalization. It is typically a reaction to modification of level of detail and/or change of visualization purpose in case that it causes a change of significance values of displayed items. |
