Description | Monitoring serves to collect data on the development of populations or communities and on its potential causes. Therefore, it requires collecting data in a way that allows for adequate statistical analysis supporting the documentation of observed trends. Therefore, in contrast to inventories, the objective of monitoring of entire communities or assemblages can not be a most complete species list but the collection of data that would allow for comparison along a time series. The methodology of monitoring populations of individual saproxylic beetle species differs according to their biology. For the monitoring of the entire assemblage, collecting by means of flight interception traps of the vane type has been emerging as a certain standard. This method is relatively independent of the qualification of personel, however, the identification of species requires the involvement of specialists and field work and catch processing are costly. |
