Description Molten fluoride salts are investigated as cooling media for molten salt and high temperature reactors. Structural materials of heat exchangers may be attacked at temperatures of about 700 C and the melt-alloy interaction provokes microstructure and composition changes of contact surface. Resulting interface is studied by means of laser ablation with inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS). Laser ablation is used as a local solid-sampling method, which represents an alternative to routinely used methods such as electron probe microanalysis (EPMA) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Authors gratefully acknowledge support of Czech Science Foundation by way of the grant project 101/08/1100 Study of interaction of cooling media at high temperatures with structural materials of heat exchangers by plasma spectrometry methods; T.V. and V.K. acknowledge the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic for support of the projects MSM0021622411 and MSM0021622410.
