Description | The article provides an analysis of prosimetrum, the mixed style, in the work The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, professor of Old English and Old English Literature. After an account of the tradition of the poetic device in question, the author comments on its particular occurrence in the book by Tolkien. She emphasizes that the extent of the verse passages in Tolkien considerably varies and that even if the verses are not often stylistically incorporated into the prose context, the prosimetrum in The Lord of the Rings is nevertheless a stylistically relevant prosimetrum, in which the story unfolds, continues and brings new information. |
