Description | This book, the third one concerning the Gravettian site of Pavlov (25-30 ka BP), focuses on the most densely settled and archaeologically “richest” parts of the site in the Southeast. An international team of 28 specialists presents analyses of various aspects of the site and its material, beginning with the settlement structure and stratigraphy, rocks and a variety of lithic artifacts, fauna and artifacts of faunal remains (including items of decoration and symbolism), and ending with the ceramics and imprints (textiles, fingerprints). In the light of this complex analysis, the site is considered not only as a palimpsest of accumulated subsequent occupations, but as a center of human aggregation, information exchange, and social rituals. |
