Description | Records of the family Simuliidae made at 30 localities in the Jizerské hory Mts and Frýdlant region in 2003 2007 are summarized. Altogether 15 species were found in the study area. All these species are newly recorded in the region. This number makes up 39.4% of the species living in the Czech Republic (43 spp.) and 44.1% (of 34 spp.) known to occur in Bohemia. From the zoogeographical point of view, Palaearctic species distinctly prevail (12 spp. = 80%), 3 species (20%) show a Holarctic distribution (Simulium (Eusimulium) aureum, S. (Simulium) reptans, S. (S.) tuberosum). Four of the Palaearctic species have been found both in Europe and Asia (Prosimulium tomosvaryi, Simulium (Nevermannia) angustitarse, S. (Simulium) ornatum, S. (S.) reptans) and eight in Europe only (Prosimulium hirtipes, P. rufipes, Simulium (Nevermannia) costatum, S. (Simulium) argyreatum, S. (S.) monticola, S. (S.) noelleri, S. (S.) variegatum, S. (Wilhelmia) equinum). In total 258 specimens collected in the study area were determined, including 15 males and 243 females. Females of 14 species are known to suck blood on avian and mammalian hosts. From the hypsometrical point of view, 3 species are montane (Prosimulium rufipes, Simulium (Eusimulium) aureum , S. (Simulium) tuberosum),10 species are predominantly submontane and 2 species are found in lowlands (S. (Wilhelmia) equinum, S. (S.) noelleri). |
