Citation
Description The book focuses on moral judgment and the way it is influenced by values, personality characteristics and moral identity. Specifically, it concentrates on real-life dilemma situations solving and reasoning that young girls and boys can experience. The overview part describes classical theories emphasizing the form of judgment but also current approaches that point out the importance of personality, self-system, values, moral identity and situational factors. The research sample consisted of 261 adolescents aged 15 - 20. Real-life moral judgment is connected with representation of interpersonal relationships and with the effects of individual's decision for these relationships. Our results indicate that specific values, personality characteristics or aspects of moral identity can contribute to preferring the relationship to a close person or one's own welfare. On the contrary, different values, personality characteristics and aspects of moral identity were connected with the solution that was just or responsible toward a larger group of persons. It was also found out that values and moral identity but not personality characteristics influenced moral reasoning. Our results show that the content of moral judgment is more important than the form of judgment.
