Description This thesis deals with the thermal effects of diagnostic ultrasound transducers. The rise of temperature within a soft tissue model resulting from the conversion of ultrasound energy to heat was measured. The spatial distribution of temperature within the model was measured using a thermovision IR system. The variation in temperature rise with exposure time, depth below the model surface and transducer frequency was investigated. Our results indicate that examination with the given diagnostic ultrasound device should not pose any risk to patients.
