Description Oligochaetes are sensitive to stress in soil environment (presence of contaminants, changes in soil properties). They belong to the most used model organisms in soil ecotoxicology. They are very frequently used in avoidance tests. Avoidance tets have many advantages ( simplicity, short duration, relatively high sensitivity) in comparison with chronic or acute tests. They could be used in studies interested in a soil pollution, chemical assessment or ecological studies. The aims of this works were validation and optimalisation of design the avoidance tests with three oligochaete species (E.fetida, E.albidus, E.crypticus) at the workplace RECETOX. E.albidus was more suitable species than E.crypticus in this type of test because it is a bigger and more hands-on species. LUFA 2.2. soil and two natural soils (Chlumek, Velká Baba 2) were found as the best possible control soils. The using of 10 organisms was more suitable then one individual per each test vessel and the most suitable time necessary to test duration was confirmed as 48 hours. Avoidance test with earthworms was established according to the appropriate standard procedure (ISO, 2007). E.fetida was more sensitive than enchytraeids in avoidance tests. All tests (with three oligochaete species) were then used in many studies within several projects at RECETOX in time period from 2006 to 2008. The results are also a part of disertation work of author (Klára Kobetičová).
