Keywords Alzheimer disease PSEN2 TSH polymorphism gene
Description Autosomal dominant early-onset Alzheimer disease is a heterogeneous condition that has been associated with mutations in 3 different genes: the amyloid precursor protein (APP), presenilin 1 (PSEN1), and presenilin 2 (PSEN2) genes. Hypothyroidism and subclinical hyperthyroidism have both been associated with cognitive impairment and dementia. In our study we found the relationship between the serum level of TSH and PSEN2 functional gene polymorphism. Beside the relationship between cleavage of APP and PSEN2, the implication of our finding leads to the explanation of new possible alternative of the influence of PSEN2 gene on the pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease.
