Description Both the depressive disorder and psychopharmacotherapy contribute to a higher weight in a substantial part of patients suffering from depression. Data concerning the influence of different treatment on admission and at discharge were extracted from the charts of patients hospitalized with recurrent depression during 2 years. Complete data were obtained from 130/151 consecutive hospitalizations. Monotherapy with antidepressants and treatment with combinations of antidepressant was associated with borh weight increase and decrease and the weight change was not clinically relevant. Monotherapy with atypical antipsychotics was associated with a relatively greater increase of weight Only augmentation of antidepressants with atypical antipsychotics led to clinically relevant increase.
