Description The paper concisely discusses the professional efforts of professor MUDr. František Hamza focused on prevention and support of human health. Profesor František Hamza is a founder of the social medicine field in our medicine. He worked mainly in Prague, Luže at Košumberk and also at the Masaryk University in Brno. The spectrum of his activities was broad. His professional character and humanistic concept of treatment and approach to patients exceeded his lifetime. He stressed the preventive factor of medicine, the support and human health protection, broad and specifically defined cooperation of physicians, pedagogues, other practical professionals that uniquely guarantees health prevention and succesful treatment of patients, especially children. His efforts mainly aimed at social diseases among which especially tuberculosis and scrofula belonged at his time. He became renowned for his efforts to establish Lidové zdravotní ústavy (Public health institutions).
