| Description | In this qualitatively oriented study, we have carried out 14 interviews with hackers aged 16 to 29. They were contacted via security portals and forums, where they share their professional interests. Respondents were asked about the beginnings of their hacking, important personal events from that time and also whether they regret their decision to pursue these activities and how they imagine their future. Our results suggest that young hackers were strongly motivated by some kind of romantic idea of a hacker as an individual infiltrating secret places, discovering things which remain hidden for others. An important finding is that a large part of these individuals would be interested in pursuing the area of computer security professionally and that they are not interested in damaging or stealing data. These respondents even expressed willingness to cooperating with police or the Ministry of internal affairs provided they were addressed by these institutions. |
