Description | I argue in my paper, that environment and space are so far underestimated concepts in the quest for understanding individual ageing and in the management of ageing societies. Using available statistical data I illustrate high regional differentiation of age structure within different regions, cities and even parts of the cities. This differentiation will indeed have great impact on speed and intensity of population ageing in these regions in years to come. Further I argue that housing trends, intensity of housing construction and interconnected processes such as urbanisation, suburbanisation, revitalisation of build environment need to be taken into account while assessing future demographic trends and planning for further development of infrastructure and services within given region. Last but not least, I draw attention to lack of understanding of heterogeneous experiences of individual as well as collective ageing based on surrounding environmental conditions. |
