Description Bifunctional chelating agents (BFC) complexing copper(II) ion are utilized in nuclear medicine, e.g. in radioisotope diagnostics (64Cu) or in tumor radiotherapy (67Cu). BFC contain metal coordination unit (e.g. macrocycle) attached to biologically active molecules. The complexes should exhibit high thermodynamic stability and, of course, kinetic inertness under physiological conditions. Therefore, it is necessary to know thermodynamic and kinetic properties (dissociation rate constants for estimation of kinetic inertness) of copper(II) complexes in order to find the best macrocyclic BFC for possible medical applications in vivo. In this work, the thermodynamic and kinetic properties of copper(II) complexes with macrocyclic ligands with acetic and phosphorus acid pendant arms were studied.
