Description | The paper aims at outlining the shifts in representing the Czech national identity in the prominent legally published Czech dailies (Lidové noviny, Národní práce, or Venkov) in the course of the existence of the Protectorate Bohemia and Moravia (1939-1945). The study follows the transformations of the key national identification factors emphasised by the analysed press. In this respect, the text pays special attention to the tendency detected in the legally published press, i.e. to gradually strengthen the importance of language and cultural identity at the expense of political identity, which may possibly boost the intentional transformation of a modern political nation into a cultural community delegating the political rule into the hands of the Nazi occupier. |
