Description The analysis of prevalence registered in the Czech Cancer Registry as of 31.12. between 1989-2005 showed increasing of values per 100,000 inhabitants from 35.2 to 61.6 in cancer of oral cavity and pharynx, from 192.6 to 485.5 in cancer of digestive tract, from 79.8 to 125.5 in cancer of respiratory tract, from 45.9 to 155 in melanoma of skin, from 531.1 to 1435.3 in cancer of skin, from 370.8 to 975.6 in cancer of breast, from 435.9 to 882.5 in cancer of female genital tract, from 136.6 to 538 in cancer of prostate and testis, from 85.9 to 311 in cancer of urinary tract, from 78 to 175.7 in cancer of lymphoid and haemotopoietic tissues. The relative prevalence can reach 70 cancers per 1,000 inhabitants. The screening programmes, long permanent medical surveillance, the broad public informations of the first symptoms and improving of life-style is not yet sufficient in Czech population in view of available data and expected cancer prevalence 752,000 in 2015. No matter what advances there may be in high-technology medicine, any major reduction in deaths and disability from cancer will come first of all from prevention, not from cure.
