Description Telomeres, the nucleoprotein structures, are very important to eukaryotic chromosome stabilization and changes in their length are critical for either undergoing next cell cycle or for induction of apoptosis. So far there were not much known about the epigenetic regulation of telomere length, nevertheless some results show that mammalian telomeres can be affected by changes in DNA and histone methylation pattern. This work is concerned of the effect of chemically induced hypomethylation of DNA and histones on telomere length in Nicotiana tabacum. Temporary results approve striking decrease in DNA methylation in subtelomeric regions, which did not lead to any change in telomeric length neither in telomere nucleozomal winding.
