Description | The Czech Society for Oncology has developed an information system which employs data from population records, the clinical registries, and data provided by an expert panel to predict the number of cancer patients who would be probably treated in the years to come. This chapter summarises the analyses of available population-based data for the Czech Republic, which has been done with the aim to estimate the incidence and prevalence rates of patients with selected cancer diagnoses in the year 2009. The predictions of epidemiological benchmarks have been adjusted using survival probability models, making it possible to estimate, quite reliably, the number of cancer patients who would probably undergo a specific stage of anticancer treatment in a given year. These estimates have been rendered with respect to the patients age, the stage of malignant disease, and to the changing demographic parameters of the Czech population. |
