Description | In the context of calls for reflexive sociology, the critique of methodological nationalism has emerged as a credible argument for refuting the modern conceptual identification of society with the nation-state. Early critiques revealed a theoretical weakness of methodological nationalism concerning its presuppositions about the internalist constitution of social change. Contemporary critiques claim that methodological nationalism is simply theoretically anachronistic nowadays. Both forms of critique build their arguments on realist epistemological presuppositions. My paper is going to explore alternative way of understanding methodological nationalism that builds on the interpretivist perspective of cultural sociology. |
