Description | Three whole genome sequencing methods and dideoxynucleotide terminator method were used for genome sequencing of T. pallidum ssp. pertenue (the causative agent of yaws) of strains Samoa D( 1 139 330), CDC-2 (1 139 744 bp) and Gauthier (1 139 441 bp). The previously reported size of the Nichols (T. pallidum ssp. pallidum) genome was 1 138 011 bp. Both subspecies cannot be distinguished based on serology or imunology. Genes annotated in the Samoa D genome were compared to the genes annotated in the Nichols genome. Possible function was predicted for 90 genes with previously unknown function (in the Nichols genome). It was discovered that more than a half (56%) of the genes code for identical proteins in both strains and just 3% of genes code for proteins with more than 10 aa differences. In this group, 9 genes in 3 ssp. pertenue strains were identified as identical in the ssp. pertenue level. Most of these genes encoded conserved hypothetical proteins. |
