Description | Follicular cysts arise from the epithelium of the tooth germ. This process is generally accompaniedby retention of the respective tooth. If the cysts remainunidentified they may dislocate surrounding teeth, erode and deform jaws; sometimes even a paraoral in-flammation may occur. The case of unidentified giantcyst of maxillae is described. A healthy nine-year-oldboy suffering from swelling of the face was dispatchedto our out-patient department. Radiographic examina-tion (OPG) revealed dislocated teeth 21, 22, 24, im-pacted 25 and also an impacted tooth 23 which wasembedded high under the orbital floor. CT examinationconfirmed the presence of a cystic formation withoutpathological vascularization. Exstirpation of the cysticformation and extraction of the teeth 21, 22, 23 and 24had to be performed. Now has the patient aestheticdefect. Reconstruction of hard tissues will be difficultand long lasting. |
