Description | Journalist Alfred Fuchs represents one of the intellectually most interesting personalities of the Catholic circles in the era of the Czechoslovak First Republic (1918-1938). His journalistic work reflects the ideas and images of the then Catholicism, which the author translates to general public using a more approachable form. The work of Alfred Fuchs is characteristic of a universal interest in societal and political issues, including those of ecumenism, Catholic universalism and unionism. Alfred Fuchs takes a differentiated approach to these phenomena: he emphasises the values of Catholic universalism on the catechismal, mystical, liturgical, and cultural and political levels. On the other hand, he supports the principles of unionism representing a merger between the Catholic and Orthodox Church, with respect to, among other things, the partially Slavonic objectives congruent with then Constantin and Methodius ethos, while rejecting, in essence, the ecumenism as a product of the Protestant environment and considering its only positive sense lying in the reduction of the evangelical individualism. |
