Description Complex partial seizure-like symptoms are believed to be a manifestation of mild temporolimbic dysfunction. The present study was undertaken to address the issue of occurrence of these symptoms in a healthy population and to investigate their relation to common psychopathology and smoking. The data analysed were collected during the year 2008 from 196 university students. Statistical analysis showed close association between seizure-like symptoms and symptoms of dissociation and distress. It was also shown that smokers (N 51) had a higher level of seizure-like symptoms than non-smokers (N 145). The implications of the finding for smoking cessation interventions are discussed.
