Description The goal of this study is to find out which personality traits characterize people diagnosed as obese. We studied a group of 84 obese people, 66 men and 18 women aged 17-71 and averaging 46.6 years. With the help of the personality inventory PSSI, we found that the personality profile of obese individuals has a characteristic shape: it moves to the upper part of the normal zone and for some personality traits it slightly exceeds it. Concretely, these are confidence, optimism, criticism and willingness traits for women and criticism, faithfulness, impulsiveness and willingness traits for men. The study confirms the hypothesis that the obese population does not embody any special psychopathological signs, rather it is characterized by particular personality traits being within or in proximity to normal bounds. However, we did not find that these personality characteristics rise concurrently with a growing degree of obesity.
