Description Purpose: To evaluate a long term efficacy and safety of trabeculectomy (TE) with adjunctive intraoperative use of mitomycin-C (MMC) in pediatric patients with primary and secondary glaucomas, and to identify risk factors for failure of this technique. Methods: Retrospective, noncomparative study of consecutive pediatric patients with glaucoma that underwent MMC augmented TE from 1995 to 2005. Conclusions:Our study demonstrates that TE s MMC is an effective treatment for many pediatric glaucomas in which goniotomy, trabeculotomy or both have failed.Bleb–related endophthalmitis is an important risk with this surgery in children. Phakic children over 1 year of age at time of surgeryhave a significantly higher probability of success than aphakic eyes in younger children.
