Description | The text of the chapter is based on three fundamental presumptions, which have not always been taken for granted: first, work is a unique commodity unlike all others; second, labor markets are traditionally labeled markets but the way they actually work is different; third, rather than speaking about labor market in singular, as a kind of (usually national) aggregation, we should speak about labor markets, in plural, which make up the aggregated (national) labor market. The introductory part presents the concept of local labor markets as well as arguments, of both theoretical and practical nature, for using this concept. The second part of the text is devoted to empirical analysis of the OKpráce database. The aim of the analysis of unemployed population in individual districts of the Czech Republic is to provide a preliminary description of the spatial and social distribution of approximated local labor markets. |
