Description | The paper focuses on topic of secularization and secularism. It tries, first, to distinguish between these two concepts as well as to show their affinity. Second, it analyzes various forms of secularization and secularism in the context of the multiple modernities perspective promoted by S. Eisenstadt and draws theoretically from the by D. Martin on different patterns of secularization and expands this line of analysis to identification of different models of secularism as state policy toward religion and/or political ideology dominating (and accompanying) modern secular states. It refers to a recent work published by A. T. Kuru. Third, it takes into account the specific situation of post-Communist countries and poses a question of impact of anti-religious policies of pre-1989 political regimes on contemporary situation of religion-society-state relations. |
