Description | Literature The Polish-Hungarian nobleman Count Maurice August Benyovszky was a real, historical figure. He was born in 1746 in Vrbové – a small village near Piestany which today is in Slovakia but was, then, a part of the Austrian Empire. He died forty years later in 1786 in Madagascar – an island claimed by France, yet over which the French never fully exercised their power. Benyovszky’s life was full of adventures which went far beyond the imagination of his contemporaries and those of successive generations. His life-story would have been worthy of the pen of Alexandre Dumas since it was just as exciting as the story of the Count of Monte Cristo. The aim of this paper is to present a number of literary works for children inspired by Benyovszky’s life. |
