Description The Moravia of the time of dukes was perceived as an insignificant intermezzo between the golden age of the Moimirid Realm and the period of the self-conscious Moravian estates of the late Middle Ages. However, the sources show that a long epilogue of the Great Moravian period was part of the history of the land until the early 11th century. The development in Moravia was specific even in the following decades, because of the presence of the ducal courts in Olomouc, Brno and (since 1101) also in Znojmo. This is the framework of the monograph Moravia in the Age of Dukes, which is an attempt at the first modern synthesis of the history of the 10th and 12th centuries from a provincial (Moravian) perspective.
