Description | Flora and vegetation of Litomyšl Region were formed through various geographic and ecological influences. The area is situated on the transition between warmer and cooler regions, where the thermophilous species characteristic for Elbe River Basin (e.g. Bupleurum falcatum, Carex distans, C. riparia, Melittis melissophyllum, Viola mirabilis) decrease and montane species (e.g. Cirsium heterophyllum, Homogyne alpina, Huperzia selago) increase, some of which are rare or absent even in the higher altitudes of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. Subatlantic species (e.g. Chrysosplenium oppositifolium, Galium saxatile, Spergula morisonii) show similar pattern as montane species; some of them reach absolute eastern margin of their continuous distribution range near Litomyšl. Eastern floral elements, particularly Carpathian ones, are even more represented (e.g. Carex pendula, Cirsium rivulare, Euphorbia amygdaloides, Geranium phaeum, Knautia drymeia). Ecology and distribution of some of these species, as well as natural conditions of their sites in Litomyšl Region, have been characterized in more detail in this paper. |
