Description The Polish-Hungarian nobleman Count Maurice August Benyovszky was a real, historical figure. He was born in 1746 in Vrbové – a small village near Piestany which today is in Slovakia but was, then, a part of the Austrian Empire. He died forty years later in 1786 in Madagascar – an island claimed by France, yet over which the French never fully exercised their power. Beňovský subsequently became the hero of many literary works of various genres and quality.
