Description | Disasters and their consequences in the open landscape have a territorial aspect. They interact with the environment in many ways. Both advantages of geography - spatial thinking and territorial synthesis - can be very useful in individual stages of disaster management. Topographic maps, road maps, land use maps can be applied predominately in the initial stages of disaster management operations to support right response forces deployment and protection of human lives and property. Data on nature, e.g. soil maps, forest maps, land use maps, slope maps can be applied for the identification of safe evacuation routes during operation period. Thematic maps on the nature can support the decision making during the mitigation period when short-, medium- and long-term measures have to be applied. There are two principal options how to use geospatial data: in its original form, and/or in the purpose oriented interpreted form. |
