Description The cohabitation of young couples with their parents is a relatively common phenomenon in the Czech Republic. We have extended the most frequent images of the problems associated with such cohabitation with the possible influence of such significant events as the birth of a child for the young couple. We work with two samples - one from the countryside and one from an urban environment - and show how living with the parents of one of the partners or eventually how not living with them affects young families with children, both in the areas of behaviour and experiences of the couple and child care. Our results show how indispensable the help of parents is for young families in taking care of their child, especially for young mothers who live together with their parents. On the other hand, our results indicate that living with the parents of one partner is often a burden for the other partner.
