Description | The investigated area is located in the coastal zone of Petuniabukta, north-western branch of Billefjorden, Spitsbergen. The most part of Petuniabukta is covered with cement type of the permafrost. During summer season, the permafrost table is located in the depth of 40-120 cm depending on the altitude, slope and relief exposition. Since 2008, fourth automatic weather stations have been operated along the northern coast of Petuniabukta at different altitudes ranging from seashore level to the mountain ridge up to 500 m a.s.l. Seasonal variation of microclimate parameters and other environmental factors were analyzed and discussed with respect to the permafrost active layer development and constituents of terrestrial polar ecosystems. |
