Description | School psychology in the Czech Republic is a relatively new discipline and thus there is not a wealth of relevant data about the practice and experience of school psychologists. In the context of the efforts to define the job of a school psychologist there are ongoing discussions about the scope of work and some authors emphasise the shift from diagnostics of pupils to dealing with teachers and the whole system. The aim of the paper is to present selected theoretical and empirical findings related to the work of school psychologists in the Czech Republic. The authors among others draw on their experience gained as methodologists of school psychologists within the project Education, information, career – The development of school guidance centres. Further, they present results of a rather limited questionnaire investigation carried out among school psychologists aimed to survey the use of diagnostic tools in school psychology practice and identify (to a certain extent) the attitudes of school psychologists to diagnostics. |
