Description | Nanopowders of metals and alloys can be investigated by various methods including thermal analysis. Both alternatives (DTA and DSC) of thermal analysis can be used as an useful tool for the opportunity to observe nanoparticles in situ. However, these methods have their own limits and specifics for the nanoparticle monitoring. Properties of nanoparticles are in fact significantly influenced by the high portion of the surface energy per individual nanoparticle. This leads to the tendency of nanoparticles to react strongly with the environment (ease of oxidation) and the intense aggregation of nanoparticles if they are in physical contact with each other. The final results can be evident for example in the use of electron microscopy for nanoparticle characterisation. |
