Digital Youth in Visegrad States: Constructing Identities Online

• Description: In this presentation, we examine the role of technology for identity construction, a key adolescent developmental task. We examine theoretical conceptions about identity in the context of youth and then explore the meaning of the terms self-presentation and virtual identity. We describe some of the online tools which youths can use for self-presentation and identity construction on the Internet. Than we demonstrate how youths use these tools to explore their identities online. Empirical results from the project EU Kids Online II will be also presented, with emphasis on differences of youths from Visegrad States to youths from other European states.
