Description Natural landscape typological maps depicting overlaying territories in the Czech Republic on different scales were applied to demonstrate changes in landscape variability – geodiversity following changes in map resolution. Applied scales varied from 1 : 10 000 to 1 : 750 000 dependently on the resolution shift from the topological to upper chorological levels. Regardless of large changes in map resolution and natural landscape unit definition criteria, the measured geodiversity varied slowly and approximately was comparable at all the used resolution levels. The process of natural landscape unit definition criteria simplification balanced approximately the territorial growth of surveyed areas. The role of geodiversity criteria has been played by the numbers of units and unit classes in measured map sheets, numbers of exotic and common unit classes, as well as values of Simpsons and Shannons variability indexes.
