| Description | Bupropion is a dual action antidepressant targeting the dopaminergic and adrenergic systems in CNS. The mechanism of its antidepressant activity is not fully understood. It is currently indicated for the treatment of depressive disorder and tobacco addiction and proved effective in double blind studies. In the Czech Republic, it is marketed in the form of sustained release tablets (SR). Extended release tablets (XL), improving compliance and used in the USA, are to be launched on the Czech market as well. Another promising indication of bupropion in the future is as augmentation therapy to SSRIs for depressive disorder to prevent sexual dysfunctions. Bupropion is also a potential new therapeutic option in nondepressive women with reduced sexual desire. |
