Description Eotaxin may play an important role in atopic dermatitis (AD) as a potent immunomodulatory agent. In this study, three single-nucleotide polymorphisms (-426C-T, -384A-G and 67G-A) of the eotaxin gene were associated with some phenotypes (genotype-phenotype study) of the AD patients. Significant differences were observed in genotype frequency of the 384A-G polymorphisms between AD patients with and without some complex disease beside atopy/allergy. Similarly, CC and TT genotypes of -426C-T polymorphisms were more frequent in AD patients with positive family history of atopy. No significant associations of evaluated phenotypes with 67G-A were observed. Detection of eotaxin gene polymorphisms in adult patients with atopic dermatitis seems to be a promising way form finding of clinically valid gene biomarkers for the disease.
